Normally I take notes and write down things that strike me during the seminars. Yesterday's tweets were like live note-taking for me. Please don't mind any spelling or grammar issues, I was in the moment with my 140 character limit. I'm posting them here as thought provokers for you. If you couldn't make it, they are things for you to consider and if you were there, they may help you recall things you wanted to consider or do.
I've also posted a .pdf file of the hand out we gave out yesterday. If you move your mouse over any of the links, you should notice that they are "hot" (meaning that you can click on them and they will link to the page). I found at least one where the link gets you to the site, but cuts of short of the exact page. Hopefully you will find it helpful.
We would again like to thank Dr. Arkfeld from Advanced Compliance Technologies (and the NACC), along with Ryan Lord and Greg Winterkamp from AddisonHealth (WritePad), for being with us yesterday and sharing their WritePad tips, tricks, and knowledge with you.
Ok, so on with yesterday's tweets....
- Live Meaningful Use=Office $timulu$. Greg Wintercamp from WritePad is talking hardware requirements & EHR use- Do you have a question?
- Are you running your office wireless or would you like to?
- The best way to update your office and your system- the best bang for the buck? Blow it on a low end server- make it fast & give it memory.
- If you want to go wireless.... you need a terminal server!
- How does your office flow?
- Did you know that your patient picture in eTHOMAS can automatically go over into WritePad? It can. A quickie system setting in WP lets you.
- Do your practice management and EHR talk to each other? Ours do! Patients, pictures, appointments go over and CPTs, DXs, etc. come back.
- Biller and Office Manager love begin when PM and EHR kiss. Life instantly looks and works better.
- Appointment types are a key... they transfer from eTHOMAS to WritePad. In WP you can customize workflows & tie them to appointment types.
- Workflows attached to appointment types include info you want your patients to fill out- oswestry, pain scales, etc. Dr enters good to go.
- Prep your EHR right & let it & your patients work for you on getting all of your basic documentation & history in. Then you review & treat.
- Are you using FeeSlip in WritePad? Why not? It ports your exam information over into eTHOMAS for review and billing. They will love you
- Ryan going over customizing your WritePad screens, workflows, etc. Need to bring pat pics over from eT? WP Settings>Options>ck eT pat pics.
- Not sure of a screen> Dbl click on it and it will pop up and give you a preview- you may find a screen you like better than you use now.
- Customize, Minimize, Organize.... Make your office life easier.
- In a list (like workflows), if an item is blue, it has pre-saved data. If an item is red, it is empty (no pre-saved data).
- Getting ready to break for lunch.... We'll be back after for Meaningful Use and how to be a WP M power User. Getting paid- priceless.
- Ryan is giving us the skinny on Meaningful Use....Oh objectives-15 required and 10 menu items (you must pick 5). If one is exempt it counts.
- Even if you do NOT prescribe- you must have access to & a working ePrescribing feature. It is required. No exemption. Chiros included.
- You must maintain an active medication list for your patients. It is a requirement that needs to be maintained. U need eRX with WP to do it.
- You must also maintain an active allergic list... too.
- You need to record changes in vital signs- a must. Exemption may be possible, but a stretching it & it's an easy thing to do.
- For meaningful use and HIPAA you need to have passwords for the people you allow to access your system. This would be for both WP and eT.
- 2 exempts from menu items you probably qualify for- if you prescribe less than 100 scripts or you don't administer immunizations- 2/5 down!
- If you don't order lab tests- that is also an exempt. That means you would be down to only 2 menu items necessary left to report.
- Generate patient list for specific criteria & send reminders to patients are two easy choices you might wish to choose, to complete the menu
- Penny will post the handout with info links (they should be hot links when posted - pdf), meaningful use list, hardware requirements etc.
- Here is Ryan Lord from WritePad at the after noon session, talking about Meaningful Use! http://twitpic.com/5q46tf
- Watching meaningful use in action within WritePad.
- Who knew chiros would have to spend an afternoon talking about drugs. Healthcare....the state of things today- Who'd have guessed?
- Getting to questions. It's been a good day. Thanks to everyone who came and to all our tweeps who couldn't, it's been fun tweeting for you.
